What an “Eventful” Year

As my last week of work for the year comes to a close I thought appropriate for a bit of reflection. My personal life this year has been the best of my life, I got married to the best man in the world, I’ve been on so many holidays I can’t count and got the news that my little sister is also going to be married next year which is amazing!

Work wise, I have done some amazing events and some not so amazing (boring) ones. I have been fortunate to travel for work to places people only dream of and I only cried once at work all year and even then I think it was more pms than the actual pressure.  I believe in ambition, I am not one for being settled and I am constantly thinking what I can do to make myself better and move higher.  I want to learn more, experience more, be challenged more, cry more! I take too much Vitamin B to sit still and as this event year draws to a close, I can’t wait for next year to see what happens but from now until 31 December, my end of year resolution is going to be to do everything within my power to make sure next year is the best work year yet.

I read a great article in The World of Psychology that talks about the appeal of a clean slate, the opportunity to start again that makes resolutions initially so appealing yet according to the piece most of the goals people set on 1 January are out the window by April. According to the article:

“The fact that people keep making resolutions even when they don’t always follow through ultimately means that they have hope and a certain level of belief in their ability to change and be more of who they really want to be”

No I don’t make New Year resolutions. My goals, plans are in my diary every day and I just work towards them, no point waiting for the 1st of January. There is a great book about getting things done, achieving goals and why people don’t!
It’s ‘Procrastination, Why You Do It, What to do About It NOW’, by Jane Burka and Lenora Yuen.
